GLOSSARY TERM

Perpetual License

A perpetual license grants lifetime access to a specific version of software. Once purchased, the user can continue to use the software indefinitely, though ongoing updates or support may require a separate maintenance agreement.

This model is valued for its one-time cost structure and is still used in sectors requiring long-term stability. However, perpetual licenses can present challenges in enforcement and update management, especially if used in highly dynamic environments.

iLok Licensing supports perpetual licenses, enabling indefinite use through machine- or dongle-based authorization that remains valid without online rechecks.
