Floating License

Floating licenses, also called concurrent licenses or “seats”, allow multiple users to share a limited number of software seats. A centralized license server manages these seats, ensuring only a set number of users can access the software at any given time.

This model optimizes license costs for organizations where not all users need simultaneous access. It requires network infrastructure to connect clients to the license server and often includes features like session timeouts, logs, and usage tracking to ensure fair and legal usage.

iLok License Server enables floating license behavior by allowing users to check licenses in and out of a license pool installed on a local network, facilitating secure, scalable concurrent usage.
